Sharpen your observational skills and deepen your understanding of light, shadow, and form in this focused portrait drawing class. Working with graphite pencils, you’ll learn the foundational proportions of the human face and how to use blending, shading, and contrast to create a lifelike, expressive portrait.
High-contrast photo references will be provided, although you’re encouraged to bring your own portrait subject if you have a favorite image you’d like to work from.
You’ll leave with a fully rendered drawing and a stronger sense of confidence in your ability to see — and translate — what’s in front of you.
This class is free and all materials are provided.
This program is a partnership between Shelby Park Community Center, Friends of Shelby, and Little Art House Foundation.
