Art in the Park: Shadow Drawing with Chalk Pastels

  • Shelby Park Community Center 401 South 20th Street Nashville, TN, 37206 United States (map)

Explore light and shadow through drawing with soft chalk pastels! Using everyday objects, nature, and sunlight, flashlights or built-in phone flashlights, you’ll learn how to observe and translate shadows into expressive, dimensional drawings.*

We’ll explore how light creates shape, contrast, positive and negative space, and mood. You’ll be guided step-by-step through pastel blending techniques, layering color, and creating depth.

This class is all about slowing down, seeing differently, and enjoying the creative process in a supportive, low-pressure environment.

*We may go outside to find or trace objects. Feel free to bring objects to trace and/or a flashlight.

This class is FREE thanks to the generosity of Friends of Shelby members and all materials will be provided.

This program is a partnership between Shelby Park Community Center, Friends of Shelby, and Little Art House Foundation.
